Managing mailboxes and aliases from our secure server

Our secure server now allows you to manage mailboxes and aliases in your domain.

  1. Login to the secure server at config.panix.com using your shell/maintenance account and password.
  2. Select the "Mail" tab and (if you control more than one domain in that account) select the domain with which you wish to work from the pulldown menu at the top of the page.
  3. To edit mailboxes, click "Manage [your domain] mailboxes".
    • To add a new mailbox, click "New mailbox"
    • To edit an existing mailbox, click on its entry in the list
  4. To edit aliases, click "Manage Aliases".
    • To create a new alias, click "New alias". Enter the alias address in the "Alias to add" field, and any destination addresses in the "Enter or Remove Recipient addresses" field, then click "Store Changes". When you're returned to the alias management page, click on the "Update mail servers" button.
    • To edit an alias, click on its entry in the list. Remember to click the "Update mail servers" button when you're done.
Changing Passwords

For any mailbox, the account owner can change the password by clicking on the mailbox and filling in the password fields. This is in addition to the password changing utility available at mail.panix.com for the customer.

Managing Mailbox Quota

For any mailbox, the account owner can raise or lower the quota by clicking on the mailbox name and using the quota field.

Additional useful information
  1. When you have finished manipulating aliases, don't forget to send the changes to the mailserver by clicking the 'Update mail servers' button at the top of the page..
  2. It may take up to 15 minutes for certain changes to take effect.
  3. Any user with billing inquiry privileges can modify mailboxes and aliases for that domain and any other domains on that customer record. If you have more than one shell account in your billing record, you might want to check with us to see which of these have billing inquiry privileges before proceeding.
  4. Panix cannot accept wildcard email. We have deprecated wildcard service because it makes our servers and your mailboxes vulnerable to dictionary spam attacks.
  5. Aliases (that is, mail forwarding to an existing mailbox) are free and unlimited. You may set up as many as you like.
If you have questions, or run into difficulty with the GUI, please don't hesitate to ask us for help.
